Plastic is cheap. The environment is not

Dec 30, 2017 | Consumption, Plastic, Pollution, Waste

Plastic is cheap. The environment is not. New investments in fossil fuel extraction, and new investments in plastic production further the trajectory of this persistent pollutant. Plastic is all-pervasive to the point of entrenchment; society is suffocating with this material. Every year, 300m tons of it are produced, and this rate is projected to quadruple in the coming decades. None of this material goes away, we are stuck with it. The earth is stuck with it.As we accept this material to package our goods, our foods, our everything, we consent to its continued use.  The plastics industry would shrink wrap the entire world if we let them, maybe even double or triple wrap. The discussions we need to have about this material avoid the biggest question of how can we stop plastic altogether.
